Loaded Class Between the Three Positions

The first day of the 2024 NFL Combine saw the defensive linemen, edge rushers and linebackers take the stage. Some of these prospects saw their draft stock, while others saw theirs fall. These five guys stood out at the Scouting Combine.

Dallas Turner, Edge, Alabama

The Alabama Edge turned in a solid outing at the combine and impressed scouts with his athletic ability. He posted a 4.46-second 40-yard dash, as well as a 1.54-second 10-yard split. The jumps were also impressive with a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-7-inch broad jump. His height has always been regarded as a weakness, but at the combine, it was neutralized by his 34 3/8″ arm length. He’s been highly regarded as a top-10 pick on many mock drafts. With his performance at the combine, he might have increased his chances

Payton Wilson, LB, NC State

He had to deal with not one, but two ACL tears and a shoulder injury during his collegiate career. The medical examinations are going to be important. Though, he does have two consecutive years of healthy film. At the 2024 NFL Combine, Wilson added to his already impressive on-field resume by posting the fastest 40-yard dash on day one with a 4.43.

Jared Verse, Edge, Florida State

The Seminole Edge Rusher finished the season on a dominant and had an impressive performance at the Combine. He ran a 4.58-second 40-yard dash with a 1.6-second 10-yard split. He checked the boxes on his jumps with a 35-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-7-inch broad jump. The arrow is pointing up and Verse could see his name called earlier than I thought on December 1st.

Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State

Another Seminole who was also impressive, Fiske ranked the best among all defensive linemen in the 40-yard dash (4.78 seconds), 10-yard split (1.68 seconds) and broad jump (9-feet-9-inches). He finished third in the vertical jump. Fiske already had the love from coaching and scouting communities after he agreed to play for a different team than the one he practiced with at the Senior Bowl. The athletic ability that he showed will improve his stock as he’s projected to go in the second round.

Jalyx Hunt, Edge, Houston Christian

Coming into the 2024 NFL Combine, I highly doubt that Hunt was on anyone’s radar. He certainly wasn’t on mine, but he was impressive. He improved his draft stock and could be a Day 2 selection. Not only did he test well with his size (6-foot-3 3/4, 34 3/8-inch arm), jumps (37 1/2-inch vertical, 10-foot-8 broad) and his 4.64 40-yard dash. He showed impressive stuff in both pass rush and linebacker drills.
