2024 NFL Scouting Combine Quarterback

Top Three Quarterbacks are set in stone

In case you missed them, feel free to check out the rest of the Scouting Combine articles. On day 3, the Quarterback candidates took center stage at the 2024 NFL Combine. The biggest debate heading into this years draft is who is the best QB outside of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels.

Michael Penix Jr., Washington

Penix is coming off of two very successful seasons at Washington under Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb. His combine got off to a good start, measuring in at just over 6-2 and 216 pounds — as expected. His 81-inch wingspan of 81 inches, 33 5/8-inch arms and 10 1/2-inch hands created some “buzz,” according to Peter Schrager. Penix didn’t take part in any of the events, but he looked good in the workouts.

Penix has been a verge first-round pick and its likely that he may have improved his draft stock at the combine.

Joe Milton III, Tennessee

There was only a select few events that QB’s were required to participate in, Milton participated in the Broad Jump (10-foot-1-inch) and Vertical Jump (35-inch). Outside of that, he was one of the stars on the field in the throwing drills. He showed arm strength that could be compared to that of Josh Allen. He proved that he can air it out for over 70 yards.

Milton won’t be a first-round pick, but his stock may heat up enough to make him the first passer selected after the top-six come off the board.

Kedon Slovis, BYU

Slovis was one quarterback who participated in a majority of the workouts in the 2024 NFL Combine. The former USC product had transferred to Pittsburgh and struggled to find consistency. After Pitt, he moved to BYU. That was not the case at the combine. His day started out with a 4.55-second 40-yard dash. He finished with the fastest time in the 10-yard split (1.58). When it came to the field performance, Slovis got the ball up and down on deep throws.

The QB-12 certainly raised his draft stock as he threw with accuracy.

Devin Leary, Kentucky

The senior season for Leary did not go as hoped but at the combine he threw with timing and touch. He was able to gain some positive momentum. He was accurate across all three levels and had the higest velocity amongst the first group of quarterbacks. It’s not likely that Leary will be a first-round or even a second round pick but he saw his stock rise.

Bo Nix, Oregon

The performance from Nix at the combine was not a bad one, but it wasn’t anything special either. He didn’t do anything to gain ground on Penix or McCarthy (who showed solid footwork in his drills). As the day progressed, Nix started to settle in and show the solid level of play that we saw this season at Oregon.
