Jason Kelce retiring

After the season, there was some speculation that Kelce would retire. However, he later went on his podcast to say that he had not made his decision, but now he has. On Tuesday afternoon, Jason Kelce retired after 13 seasons as one of the best centers in the NFL.

It was an emotional conference for Kelce, who started to cry at times throughout the speech that he had written out. It doesn’t come as a surprise that Jason Kelce has officially retired, however. He had pondered the decision after the Super Bowl 57 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m not saying that yet,” Kelce said when asked about retirement during his postgame press conference after that Super Bowl. “We’ll see.”

The Eagles were expected to contend for a Super Bowl once again heading into the 2024 season. Kelce had elected to return on a one-year deal. Through, the first half of the season it had looked like the Eagles had looked like a juggernaut, starting the season out 10-1 through the first 11 games. Things took a turn after that and the Eagles lost five of their next six games. They were unable to get out of that downward spiral in the playoffs, which saw them lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kelce will go down arguably one of the best centers in NFL history. He’s been through a lot within the organization. From the Chip Kelly era to the Super Bowl era. Through all of it, he has constantly been a instrumental part of the Eagles’ success. He was an All-Pro first team Offensive Lineman six times in the past seven seasons and was named a Pro-Bowler seven times. Only Aaron Donald and Zack Martin have been named to the All-Pro first team more than that.
