For 30 years, NBA fans have been accustomed to Woj Bombs. It’s going to be a new adventure for Wojnarowski as he posted on X early Wednesday that he’d be retiring from the news industry.

“I grew up the son of a factory worker two miles from ESPN’s campus,” Woj said in his post. “And only ever dreamed of making a living as a sportswriter. Thirty-seven years ago the Hartford Courant gave me my first byline and I never stopped chasing the thrill of it all.”

During his time as reporter, Wojnarowski has reported for several news entities. Although, he is most known for his time with ESPN and Yahoo Sports! Basketball fans have become accustomed to the Woj bombs on social media when breaking news is reported.

“This craft has transformed my life, but I’ve decided to retire from ESPN and the news industry. I understand the commitment required in my role and it’s an investment that I’m no longer driven to make. Time isn’t in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are personally more meaningful.”

After the news broke, his colleagues were quick to give their thoughts on social media with Jeff Passan stating that Woj is the best. Adam Schefter had stated “What a statement. What a career. Legend.”

“I leave with overwhelming gratitude for countless mentors and colleagues, subjects and stories, readers and viewers. No one has benefitted more than me from the belief, trust and generosity of others.”

As Wojnarowski leaves the news industry, he won’t be leaving the basketball industry. He’s going to take over as the GM of St. Bonaventure basketball. Where his new role will include Name Image and Likeness allocation, recruiting and supporting successful Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt. You can find more on that here.

We all here at Fantom Sports would like to wish Woj the best. He truly was a legend when it came to reporting.
