The Brooklyn Nets have struggled early this season. As of now, they are ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 15-19 record. The slow start has led to some speculation on whether the Nets would consider trading Mikal Bridges. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, that will not be the case.

The Senior NBA Reporter does a thing called “Wednesdays with Woj” on the Threads app which was released in July 2023. He answers questions that are asked by NBA fans and reporters alike.

Mikal Bridges was one of the key pieces that the Nets got in exchange for Kevin Durant. It took some time for Wojnarowski to answer the comment regarding Bridges but he responded with:

“I believe Brooklyn’s intent remains to build and add talent around Mikal Bridges.”

Why the Nets would trade Bridges:

The Nets are at a point where they have to decide whats best for the future of the organization. Does it make sense to get younger and not competing for the near future? With how stacked the Eastern Conference has become, the Nets will struggle against the top-tier teams unless they add a legitimate star. Bridges would bring in a decent haul if the Nets wanted to trade him.

Bridges has started all 34 games for the Nets and is averaging 20.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He hasn’t looked like the offensive dynamo he was when Brooklyn acquired him. However, he remains to be one of the top two-way players in the league thanks to his exceptional defense on the wing. That could draw some interest from teams who are either at the top of the standings or on the bubble of competing.

Why the Nets should keep Bridges:

As mentioned above, Bridges is one of the top two-way players and he’s still just 27 years old. The Nets are the eighth youngest team in the NBA. They have two young guards/forwards in Bridges and Cam Thomas. If the Nets can get the pairing to dominate together, they’ll be hard to stop.

As Woj said, they still plan to add talent around Bridges so maybe they could spend some money in the offseason.
