Like many major sports organizations, NBA teams are getting ready to debut all-new City Edition jerseys. The NBA has done this for awhile, last year they were actually decent. Those jerseys have been leaked and we have them for you.
Over the past several seasons, the NBA has been finding new ways to connect with the fan bases in the respective cities. Last season, they debuted the In-Season tournament which had fun courts. For years, we have seen some creativity with the city edition jerseys, this year they seem bland, however. Now let’s be real these are still better than city edition jerseys when Adidas had the contract, but I feel Nike could do a lot better.
As a fan of the Oregon Ducks, I’m acquainted with what Nike can do with Uniforms. They generally have some good ideas for the Ducks. They’ve also come up with some Fire City Connect jerseys for the MLB. The Mariners and Padres are two of my favorites in the MLB. Those jersey’s actually connect with the city and regional areas. These NBA City Edition jerseys just look basic and feel rushed.
These jerseys are supposed to “connect court, community and culture” for all 30 teams with regional references and styles. If I’m going to choose my favorites here, I would have to say that they are the Kings, the Sixers, and probably the Suns. The worst of the crop is probably the Mavs, the Clips and the Celtics. Those latter three will need some storytelling for us to understand how they “represent the stories, history and heritage that make each franchise unique—honoring the inherent bond between, court, community and culture.” I’m having a hard time figuring out how they do.
What are your thoughts on these? Which ones do you like? Which ones do you hate?
