Despite finishing as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Indiana Pacers did the unthinkable and made a deep run in the postseason. While stars like Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam may be credited with this hefty feat, the veterans and role players made the real difference. One player flying under the radar is the former Gonzaga Bulldog Andrew Nembhard.

The Pacers’ coaching staff utilized Nembhard as a combo guard who would complement Haliburton’s all-world playmaking abilities. This role fits a second-year player who has proven he can score at all three levels.

Once the playoffs arrived, injuries tagged along. Haliburton and several others missed time, forcing the coaches into the ‘next man up’ mentality. Little did the Pacers know this would be one of their best decisions all season.

Andrew Nembhard has his rise to stardom is set in stone with the Indiana Pacers.

Andrew Nembhard possesses a unique talent, a rare ability to score efficiently. This is a trait seldom seen in sophomore guards who have had limited opportunities. His chemistry with one of the world’s best passers has opened up the floor on all three levels, making him a player to watch and be intrigued by.

Nembhard averaged 9.2 points and 4.1 assists in the regular season while shooting 49.8% from the field. Though he was effective with his scoring, fans may wonder where the hype stemmed from, considering his averages. To say the least, he eclipsed new levels when given the green light.

Throughout the Pacers’ conference finals run, Nembhard recorded 14.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, with an impressive true shooting percentage of 65.4. These numbers seem fabricated when taking into account his minimal experience and the pressure of the playoffs.

Although the Celtics swept the Pacers, Indiana fans have plenty to be excited about regarding Nembhard’s potential. With the proper coaching and development, it is not an understatement to say that Nembhard could reach the all-star conversation in the near future. Next season could be the one that stamps his talents on the map.
