After mysteriously leaving almost three months ago, Andrew Wiggins is closing in on a return to the court. The team expects to have him back as soon as early next week. Steve Kerr said has been working out every day to stay in shape. But Kerr also said the training and medical staff would evaluate his fitness and conditioning to see where he’s physically at.
The reason for Wiggins’s absence was that he was dealing with a family matter. The specific details were unknown until it was revealed by Shams that his father Mitchell Wiggins is dealing with a serious medical condition.
The team has expressed their love and support to Wiggins throughout this whole process. Steph Curry said last week “We’d love to have him and hope that that does happen, because we want to be whole and I’m sure he wants to be a part of this. “But when he walks in the door, it’ll be when it’s the right time for him. That’s kind of the expectation at this point.”
Wiggins missed 22 games, in those games, the Warriors have a 12-10 record. Most of those losses came on the road, as the Warriors only end up winning nine of those games. They managed to hold up decently well in the standings as they currently sit as the fifth seed in the Western Conference. However, they are in a four-way tie when it comes to the play-in tournament.
Being absent for a long period of time, it would make the Warriors not rush him. But with the playoffs around the corner, this is the time to get fully healthy. Wiggins’s presence was truly missed, especially on the defensive end. The last year’s finals run proved that Dubs need Wiggins on their quest for another back-to-back title run.
