Coming off a disappointing season after being the first team ranked preseason number one and missing the NCAA tournament, center Armando Bacot and guard RJ Davis decide to return to North Carolina for another year. Bacot is using his fifth year of eligibility meanwhile Davis is returning for his senior season. This is big news given that Puff Johnson, Tyler Nickel, and Dontrez Styles entered the transfer portal.

The Carolina Blue

Wearing the Carolina blue is something not every athlete gets to do, especially at the University of North Carolina, a blue-blood basketball program. For Bacot, he embraces it and a big reason he decided to use his fifth-year eligibility to run it back one last time after a sour taste after the loss to Virginia in the ACC tournament. This was supposed to be the best team in the country, a team that was supposed to win the ACC, and a team that had championship aspirations in March. Well, none of that came true and now Bacot and Davis have to lead the Tar Heels back to national recognition with Caleb Love in doubt of coming back, as he might test the portal or go to the NBA Draft.

Just Why

With so much chaos in Chapel Hill in the early offseason in March, why did Bacot and Davis decide to come back? Well, mainly Bacot has no NBA future as a starter or bench player, he is undersized as a big and can’t dominate inside like he should. Now, as for Davis, it is mainly the same, as his draft stock is not there yet, mainly viewed as a round-two pick.

Don’t get it wrong, though, they were two of the top three scorers on their team, combining for 32 points per game, with Bacot averaging a double-double a game. The urge to run it back for a team who severely disappointed last year could be another reason to come back, the thirst of a national title in sight, with a coach in Hubert Davis who has proven he can get a team there, when they lost to Kansas in last year’s national championship in his first year under helm. And what the Carolina Blue means, what it means to put on the jersey every night, to represent this blue blood program, and what it means to call yourself a Tar Heel.

We will see how this move turns out for the Tar Heels, but one things for sure, Armando Bacot and RJ Davis will be back in the Carolina Blue.
