Just hours before the clock struck zero on making his decision, Austin Novosad has flipped his commitment from Baylor to Oregon. According to his twitter:
The decision was announced early Wednesday morning.
Novosad is a four-star prospect out of Dripping Springs, Texas where he played at Dripping Springs high school. Novosad has played 33 games over 3 years as a Varsity starter and threw for 8,983 yards, 114 touchdowns and just 18 interceptions.
Novosad originally committed to the Bears on Dec. 16, 2021. He stayed with his commitment until Will Stein became the new Offensive Coordinator at Oregon. Novosad has a relationship with new Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein, and the two have kept in touch since Stein came to Eugene. The Ducks recently lost five-star prospect Dante Moore, but that’s when getting Novosad might have been clear for Dan Lanning’s staff.
With Bo Nix returning for the 2023 season, it has become clear that the Ducks are set at the starting QB spot for this season, but they need players to fill out that room and compete for the starting job in 2024.
“The overall fit was good,” Novosad told 247Sports. “With the previous Stein relationship and the offense he runs is great. I think he develops quarterbacks and they have some dudes to throw to.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Novosad took a visit to Eugene this past weekend. He becomes commit No. 24 for Dan Lanning and his staff in the 2023 cycle.
“Also after meeting Coach Lanning, I could tell that I would fit into the culture there.”
With Austin Novosad in the fold, Oregon’s class rises to three spots to No. 12 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings with a lot of runway to go with the prospects the Ducks are in on late in the cycle. He’s not the only prospect that the Ducks flipped either, they flipped five-star Safety Peyten Bowen. As of 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oregon had announced 16 signings to the 2023 class.
