In a late Saturday night bombshell to Team USA in the golf competition, it was announced that Bryson DeChambeau will not compete in the Olympic golf event. However, USA Golf has named Patrick Reed to replace DeChambeau in the event.
DeChambeau released a statement following the news he will not compete in Tokyo,
“Representing my country means the world to me and it is was a tremendous honor to make this team. I wish Team USA the best of luck next week in Tokyo. I will now focus on getting healthy, and I look forward to returning to competition once I am cleared to do so.”

DeChambeau is a major champion, winning the 2020 U.S. Open last September at Winged Foot in New York. However, he is one of the more controversial figures in golf with his feud with Brooks Kopeka. Though he will miss the Olympics, DeChambeau can still win the FedEx Cup at the end of the season.
However, Bryson DeChambeau will be replaced by someone who golf fans have dubbed “Captain America.” Patrick Reed is a major champion, having won the Masters in 2018. But, a major advantage for Reed is he competed in the Olympic tournament five years ago in Rio. Compared to the other members of the men’s team, he is the veteran of the group. In 2016 he finished tied for 11th. Reed also released a statement describing the honor it is to compete for Team USA,
“I am so excited to have the opportunity to represent our country and be a part of Team USA in Tokyo,”

Team USA Golf Preview Without Bryson DeChambeau
However, even without Bryson DeChambeau, Team USA can still place one of its four on the podium in the event. Reed will join golfers Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and the most recent major champion Collin Morikawa who won the British Open last week. The Golf Competition from Kasumigaseki Country Club kicks off Thursday morning, which is Wednesday night in the states.
