After finishing as the 11th seed and missing a chance at the postseason, the Brooklyn Nets have several crucial decisions to make in the offseason. They could either trade franchise star Mikal Bridges and build from the ground up, a move that could potentially bring in fresh talent and rejuvenate the team, or add depth in free agency with aspirations to fight for a championship next season, a strategy that could bolster their current roster and make them more competitive.
Although building around Bridges may seem ideal, rumors, reportedly originating from reliable sources, about the Nets and their cross-town rival have surfaced.
The New York Knicks may have the best package to offer in return for Bridges. They have some of the strongest young talent in the league and a number of first and second-round picks that may intrigue the Nets. The only question is, what will the asking price be to acquire the most durable player in the NBA? This trade could reshape the dynamics of both teams, and it’s crucial to consider all aspects before making a decision.
The Brooklyn Nets could use their high asking price on two-way star Mikal Bridges to draw leverage with the New York Knicks.
Mikal Bridges is undoubtedly the most reliable up-and-coming star in the NBA. He shows up every night and dominates on both ends of the floor. This is the type of player executives dream of when building their franchises.
Last season, Bridges played all 82 games and averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists with a true shooting percentage of 56.0. Despite not receiving the all-star nod or all-NBA honors this season, the former Villanova product has a future as bright as some of the best in the world.
Regarding what the Knicks may be willing to trade, it would likely be anyone outside Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo. These three have built an impeccable level of chemistry on and off the court, and the front office will be unwilling to break it up.
Moreover, if he opts for his player option, the Nets must ask for OG Anunoby and Miles McBride. Additionally, the Knicks will be expected to include both of their 2024 first-round picks.
If the Nets make this trade, they will improve next season. They will have a solid core around Nicolas Claxton, Cam Thomas, and Anunoby, with countless role players who can contribute consistently on a nightly basis.
