The Browns vs Chargers game on Sunday, October ninth has the potential to be very explosive. It could turn into a shootout and if not that most likely a high-scoring game. A season ago this game was high scoring and very electric for both teams. Last season the final score of this game was Chargers 47-42 win over the Browns. This game has the makings to be just the same as a season ago.

Browns Defense

The Browns defense this year has been disappointing at times. Coming in with high expectations because of last season’s top-five defensive ranking. The main reason for the disappointment here is because of the lack of communication between players that have led to big plays. So above all in this game against the Chargers Cleveland must communicate to limit those big plays. Giving up chunk yards last season contributed to them losing. However, with the return of Myles Garrett to the lineup and possibly Jadeveon Clowney this can go a long way to limiting the Chargers offense. They must win the turnover battle in this game and take advantage of said turnovers. Justin Herbert coming in is dealing with a rub injury and they must exploit the weaknesses. They must blitz and play more man coverage.

Browns Offense

Coming in the Browns offense has exceeded expectations. Averaging about 26.3 points a game opponents must score points this season. The strength of this team is the running game and they will most likely need a heavy dose of it against the Chargers. Next for the Browns offense, they must stay aggressive. This game is the game to go for it on fourth down because field goals won’t solely win this or you. As well they must spread the ball around and get multiple pass catchers involved. Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb should be on the field together more. Most importantly continuously run the football.

Special Teams

In recent weeks the special team unit has been dormant. They have suffered miscues that were luckily saved by teammates. This unit must find a way to positively contribute to the Browns. Cade York might be called upon in this game for a possible game-winning kick. Last season the game came down to the very last drive the Browns had the ball. If there is no positive movement then a coaching change may be needed.

Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. Justin Herbert is undoubtedly a young star in the making. In addition, Herbert is suffering from a rib injury. They have great pass catchers in Mike Williams and Gerald Everett. Their defense is lacking and can’t really stop the run at all. To be fair the Chargers defense is very talented but hasn’t always played that way. The Chargers will look to capitalize on miscommunication from the Browns defense and mental mistakes that lead to big plays. Austin Ekeler is a great back catching the ball. Overall the offense has plenty of weapons and can exploit some issues the Browns defense has.

Conclusion

A lot has been made over the next seven opponents the Browns will face. The next seven teams are tough opponents and this could be a difficult stretch of games. However, the Browns can win this game. They must play mistake-free football. The defense must talk to each other, the offense must utilize their two most dangerous weapons in Chubb and Hunt. Cleveland should run the ball and control the clock. Under Kevin Stefanski, the Browns are 12-3 after a loss and he is 13-6 of all time at home. If the Browns can do these things they should be able to win.
