Just two weeks ago, Bruce Irvin was sitting at home with his family. He got a few calls, and the Seattle Seahawks were one of them. If you haven’t heard by now the Seattle Seahawks did in fact sign and reunite with Irvin. The veteran linebacker/defensive end is now on his third stint with the team.

He’s been around the league a little bit in between those three stints, as he played for Atlanta, Las Vegas, Carolina, and Chicago. Now he has returned home for one last ride:

Bruce Irvin brings Leadership and Veteran Presence

At the age of 35, Irvin may not be as quick as he was in his younger days but he can help mentor younger linebackers like Jordyn Brooks and Cody Barton. A few members of the Seahawks’ Legion of Boom defense have been around to help out this season. Most notably, Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman. Irvin is the only one to return as a player this season.

Sherman has been impressed with Seahawks rookie Tariq Woolen:

“He’s playing silly right now, it doesn’t even make sense,” Sherman said of Woolen Monday on The Richard Sherman Podcast. “Four interceptions in four games … Looking like the Defensive Rookie of the Year.”

Since the re-signing of Irvin, the Seahawks defense has done a complete 180. There may not be much to credit Irvin for actually playing, as he’s only played 25 snaps, and only has two tackles. Both of which came in the game against the Chargers, as he was activated from the practice squad that day. Though the veteran leadership and presence might be helping.

As the season moves along, Irvin should get more playing time in order to help the mentoring of Seattle’s younger stars. Even when, he’s not on the field, he can help coach them from the sideline.
