Buffalo Bills 2023-2024 Season Preview

The 2023-2024 Bills have a renewed sense of urgency this season as their championship window begins to close.

2022-2023 Results

Last season the Bills had their sights set on a title after another strong regular season. Josh Allen put up an MPV-like season, proving he is one of the elite quarterbacks in the league. Von Miller shocked the world by signing with the team mid-season. They took down their division rival Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card. However, they fell short in the divisional round again to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.

It wasn’t long ago that we looked at the Bills as a young, up-and-coming team with a bright future because of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. Now they have arrived. Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs each received massive contract extensions, but it could be now or never for the 2023-2024 Bills to win a Super Bowl.

Key Additions

RB Damien Harris

The former Patriots agreed to a one-year deal with Buffalo and will be an important part of the offense this season. Harris is a bruiser who is great between the tackles and in short-yardage situations. He’ll be a good complement to smaller backs like James Cook and Nyhiem Hines.

OL Connor McGovern

McGovern will be the new starting left guard for the Bills after signing a three-year $23 million deal in the offseason. McGovern is a three-year pro who started 15 games for the Dallas Cowboys last season.

OL David Edwards

David Edwards was another guard Buffalo signed for depth on the offensive line. The 26-year-old has plenty of starting experience with the LA Rams but only played four games last season due to concussions.

Draft Additions

  • TE Dalton Kincaid (Round 1, Pick 25, Utah)
  • G O’Cyrus Torrence (Round 2, Pick 59, Florida)
  • LB Dorian Williams (Round 3, Pick 91, Tulane)
  • WR Justin Shorter (Round 5, Pick 150, Florida)
  • G Nick Broeker (Round 7, Pick 230, Ole Miss)
  • CB Alex Austin (Round 7, Pick 252, Oregon State)

Key Departures

LB Tremaine Edmunds

Perhaps the biggest loss for the team overall is inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. In free agency, Edmunds signed a four-year $72 million deal with the Chicago Bears, the biggest four-year deal for an inside linebacker in NFL history.

RB Devin Singletary

Singletary is off to Houston with the hopes of being the backup to Damien Pierce. Singletary could never secure a three-down role in Buffalo but had a productive career with the Bills overall. James Cook figures to take over his role as a receiving back.

OL Rodger Saffold III

Saffold is headed back to Tennessee after a one-year stint with the Bills. The 35-year-old guard has shown great durability and started 16 games last season.

Season Outlook

The 2023-2024 Bills have a much tougher path to the postseason in this division than they did in years past. However, I don’t think this will stop them from finishing on top of the AFC East and having a home-field advantage in the playoffs. I predict Buffalo to finish 11-6 and to make another appearance in the AFC Championship game.
