Montreal Canadiens star forward and leading goal scorer Cole Caufield will be missing for the remainder of the 2022-23 season due to an injury on his right shoulder that has cost him surgery. This will be a massive loss for the Canadiens, as Caufield is an elite player with 26 goals and ten assists in 46 games this season.
What Happened To Cole Caufield
The decision was made by head coach Martin St. Louis following a medical report on Friday night which noted on Saturday that the 22-year-old had been playing hurt due to an injury sustained earlier in the season. Soon after the medical operations, a recovery update will be sent.
How Does This Affect the Canadiens
Not only have the Habs recently lost 18-year-old Juraj Slafkovsky because of an injury, but now Caufield will also be out. The Canadiens have a 19-24-3 record and are 26th in the NHL. So in response, the Montreal Canadiens have called up forward Alex Belzile from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
This is a devastating time, not only for the Canadiens but for Caufield as well. The forward went into his second season this season and is a phenomenal player. Canadiens Captain Nick Suzuki will suffer the most with Caufield’s absence. It’s unfortunate that he won’t be on the ice for the rest of this season, as he is improving his skills in every game.
It will just be a matter of time and patience for Montreal till Caufield returns to the lineup.
