The recently released Dalvin Cook has found his new team just in time for the playoffs. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens and Dalvin Cook agreed to terms just in time for a playoff run.
In the hopes of making a deep run, the New York Jets went out big this past offseason. They had acquired Aaron Rodgers, Cook, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Quinton Jefferson and Al Woods. The season hasn’t quite turned out the way they wanted. That was expected from the moment that Rodgers got injured. Cook was waived by the New York Jets earlier this week.
With the Ravens, Dalvin Cook will be looking to change his fortunes this season. The 28-year-old has struggled so far this season. He only started one game for New York. He’s carried the ball 67 times for a total 214 yards. When he scores a touchdown with Baltimore, it will be his first to the season. Those aren’t really starter numbers, but he’s a 4-time pro-bowler. Even if he can contribute half of what he did with the Vikings to the Ravens offense, they’ll be poised for a deep run in the playoffs. One that could potentially get capped off with a Super Bowl Championship.
Cook should provide a nice boost to the run game. One that is frequently led by their quarterback. Outside of Lamar Jackson, Gus Edwards is the leading rusher for the Ravens this season. Edwards has 762 yards and 13 touchdowns on 188 carries. He’s struggled to produce big plays this season which could be costly come playoff time.
The Ravens have already locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC. That’ll give them a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. With the Ravens final game of the regular season on Saturday, they’ll likely opt not to play Cook. Which would mean that his first game in his new threads would come in the playoffs.
For now, Cook will be on the practice squad. Though, he’ll likely get activated before the playoffs.
