What a thrilling event. Damian Lillard would go on and become this years NBA three point contest, and here is how that outcome was reached.
First Round
Jayson Tatum would go first and get a score of 20 to set the tone. His best rack was his last one, which he made them all. Tatum would hit nine of his last ten shots. Tyrese Haliburton would go next, and be the first one to hit the first and second Starry four pointer. He would drop a smooth 31, and would make all but one of his money ball’s. His teammate Buddy Hield, the only former champ of the event in the field of contestants, would be next. He would have two perfect racks, and finish with a score of 23. Tyler Herro would be next. He came out ice cold and missed his first seven. Herro would finish with a score of 18, and was eliminated. The top of the key was his spot, but he did not have good enough of a start to do some damage.
Julius Randle would be the next contestant to go. With the longest odds to win it, it made sense why. He was also cold from the floor finishing with 13, being eliminated. The Kings’ Kevin Huerter would be the next to go. He would be another contestant who was cold from beyond the arc. He finished with eight points and was eliminated, only making five shots. Lauri Markkanen followed, and shot a bit better at the beginning. He would cool off a bit, but still finished with 20. Damian Lillard would be the last one to go in round one. Wearing a Weber State Jersey, Lillard was stroking it early. He would finish off Tatum and Markkanen with a score of 26. This means the final round would be Lillard, Haliburton, and Hield.
Final Round
The Former champ Hield would go first for the final round, Hield got super hot late, hitting a score of 25 and making it a bit more nerve wracking for the other two, Lillard would follow this performance. Lillard would put on a thriller, putting up 26 hitting the final four shots on his last rack. Haliburton would go last, only needing 26 to tie 27 to win. He went cold at the beginning, and that would be what hurt him. Finishing with a score of 17, that would not be enough. Damian Lillard would win, and he would be the first Portland Trail Blazer ever to win the three point contest. Third time’s the charm for Lillard.
What a night for Damian Lillard.
