D'Andre Swift

D’Andre Swift signs with the Chicago Bears, implementing a solution to their running back situation, signing the former Philadelphia Eagle and Detroit Lion. According to Adam Schefter, Ryan Poles and the Bears signed him to a three-year, 24.5-million-dollar contract, with 15.3 million guaranteed.

Swift was traded last offseason to the Eagles, leaving the NFC North, for a 2025 fourth-round pick and an exchange of seventh-round picks. Swift was one of six running backs in the league to rush for at least 1000 yards and haul in 35 receptions. Statistically last season, Swift had a career year rushing for 1049 yards and five touchdowns while catching 39 passes fir 214 and a score. He will more than likely steal the carries from former starter Khalil Herbert and will halt the Bears to go after Saquon Barkley.

Herbert never touched the 1000-yard meter last year will the Chicago Bears and struggled with injuries in the last two seasons, so this is a massive upgrade for Chicago. Herbert will be a great backup and 3rd-down catching back if needed. For Roschon Johnson, his snaps will be limited barring injuries, but could see punt and kick return duties if needed. Johnson is also a better catching back that Herbert many would say, so he could take on the role if Swift is hurt or needs a rest. All in all, the running back room is improved now with Swift, and they could add onto it late in the draft if needed, maybe Audric Estime from Notre Dame.

With the Bears in question of who their quarterback will be after April, it will give the eventual quarterback another weapon on the offensive side of the ball. Whether that is Caleb Williams, Justin Fields or any quarterback prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft remains to be decided. The Chicago Bears kick off the offseason with a need in the running back spot and wasted no time filling it. D’Andre Swift signing with the Bears could be the best thing for the offense if Fields does come back, giving him a mobile back that can catch and pass.
