Christian Wilkins Raiders

Christian Wilkins signs with the Raiders in a massive deal over four years, receiving $84.75 million guaranteed over $110 million base values. Wilkins, the now former Dolphin, was one of the top defensive tackles on the market in free agency, along with Arik Armstead, the San Fransico 49er, now free agent. After Chris Jones signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, the market exploded for the defensive tackle position, headlined by Christian Wilkins. Wilkins, the former first-round pick in 2019, spent the last five seasons with the Miami Dolphins and is coming off a career-best year in 2023, racking up nine sacks and yards lost of 71, both career highs.

Wilkins adds to a young and talented defensive core the Raiders are building in Las Vegas, pairing him with Maxx Crosby, Tyree Wilson, and Malcolm Koonce. Crosby is the defensive captain for the Raiders, but Wilkins will create a one-two punch in the run and in the pass. Crosby had a career-high in sacks (14.5) and assisted tackles. He came close to breaking his solo tackle high and yards loss high. Now, the Raiders will try to bring in linebackers and beef up their secondary after the Wilkins signing or if they intend to do that in the draft. Offensively, there is still a question at quarterback and now with them losing Josh Jacobs to Green Bay, the offensive may be the reason the Raiders struggle this season.

With Wilkins gone, Arik Armstead headlines the defensive tackle free agent class remaining. with Leonard Williams and D.J. Reader close behind but far behind in value. This is a big splash for new general manager of the Raiders, Tom Telesco, signing a top ten free agent and for it to be on the defensive side of the ball. The Raiders allowed 118.5 yards per game on the ground last season, which was below average in the NFL, so Wilkins signing with the Raiders should help that cause with the Dolphins having a top ten defense in stopping the run led by Wilkins.
