The Oregon State Beavers are a Pac-12 team on the rise. Now, they might be adding one of the most recognized and criticized in the College Football Playoff era. The former Clemson Tiger DJ Uiagalelei is reportedly set to transfer to OSU.
The Tigers are set to take on Tennessee in the Orange Bowl on December 31st, and the quarterback’s status is unknown. In comparison, the Beavers have already won their bowl game this season. Oregon State finished the 2022 season at 10-3, winning double-digit games for only the third time in program history. With freshman quarterback Ben Gulbranson finishing the campaign for the Beavers, it sets up an interesting battle between the players for the job next season. But the transfer portal doesn’t close until January, so it’s still possible Gulbranson himself finds another home before fall camp begins.
Jonathan Smith has four of his offensive line returning for next season, along with the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, running back Damien Martinez. With a proven quarterback like DJ Uiagalelei at the helm, the Beavers may be in contention for a Pac-12 Championship next season.
Nonetheless, the Pac-12 is trending to be the most interesting conference in College Football next season. The Ducks have Bo Nix returning, USC’s Heisman Quarterback Caleb Williams is returning, and Deion Sanders is now the head coach at Colorado.
Uiagalelei flashed some potential in 2022 for a Clemson team that won its first eight games. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound quarterback possesses ideal size and a rocket for an arm. Though, towards the end of the year, there were some struggles that eventually led to the junior QB being benched in place of sophomore Cade Klubnik.
