Florida State has their new quarterback for the 2024 season after DJ Uiagalelei announced his commitment per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Earlier in the day, he had emerged as the top target. Uiagalelei was the most experienced quarterback remaining in the portal. Last season, he led the Oregon State Beavers to an 8-4 season and an AP Poll ranking as high as 10. The graduate transfer will have one season of eligibility left.

In Corvallis, Uiagalelei threw for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 57.1% of his passes, adding another six touchdowns on the ground. He started his career at Clemson, he started 28 games, throwing for 5,681 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions, completing 59.8% of his passes while adding 913 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.

Over the past week, Florida State hosted both Cam Ward and DJ Uiagalelei. The Seminoles targeted the latter and got their man for the next campaign. The announcement comes two days after Florida State was blown out of the water by Georgia. He becomes the second player to transfer to FSU this portal season joining former Georgia defensive end and FSU legacy Marvin Jones Jr.

He’ll look to take over for Jordan Travis, who had an impressive year. The unfortunate part is that Travis was not able to finish the season after his injury. For the second season in a row, Uiagalelei will join a team that faces some conference uncertainty. Oregon State saw the Pac-12 implode in the season that Uiagalelei was the QB. Recently, there have been reports that Florida State may leave the ACC as well. However, it’s unclear as to which conference they’d join. Whether it be the SEC, Big 12 or Big 10.
