J.D. Martinez Is Heading To Los Angeles.

J.D. Martinez and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a one-year, $10M deal. Martinez, who became a free agent after his five year tenure with the Boston Red Sox, has found a new home in Los Angeles. This deal comes after a somewhat quiet offseason so far for the Dodgers. But they are showing once again that they are still able to land some quality players to bolster their already potent lineup. @JonHeyman was first with the news on Twitter.

J.D. had an average year in 2022, with the overall power on a decline since 2019. This past season, Martinez slashed .274/.341/.448 with 16 home runs and 62 runs batted in. While the power has been down, J.D. has turned into one of the better contact hitters in the league. In 2022, he finished with 43 doubles and in 2021, he led the league with 42 doubles.

J.D. And Mookie In The Same Lineup Once Again.

The Dodgers have been quiet so far this offseason. They have yet to make any large moves that many were expecting them to make, along with losing some key players like Trea Turner. However, with this signing of a solid right handed bat in J.D. Martinez, they are showing that they are still looking to make some waves this winter.

This deal also brings a reunion between JD Martinez and Mookie Betts, who spent a couple years together with the Red Sox. Most notably, they were world champions together with Boston in 2018. Not to mention that they are also very good friends who were tight at the hip during their time with the Red Sox. These two bats in the same lineup were straight up dangerous in 2018-2019. Will bringing these two together again lead to even more damage like we saw in Boston?
