The Philadelphia Eagles won the first Super Bowl in 2018. Since then, they have made the playoffs, rebuilt, made the playoffs again, and now find themselves once again on the biggest stage in the Super Bowl. I don’t think any predictions had the Eagles going this far, yet, here they are. Beyond the Super Bowl, however, the Eagles appear set to face challenges in the offseason. The Eagles need to make sure to retain key pieces that have helped them get this far. Altogether, the team currently has 19 players entering free agency. With two draft picks and not much cap space to spend, here are my off-season priorities and predictions for the Eagles ’23 off-season.

5 Priorities and Predictions

  1. Extend QB Jalen Hurts

This one is fairly simple. Philadelphia has found their franchise quarterback. Make sure to secure him. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported that team and Hurts will have extension talks in offseason. It was also reported the star quarterback could receive a deal that worth over $50M per season. Evidently, there is no doubt in my mind the two sides strike a massive extension.

My Prediction: five-year, $252.5M with an annual salary of $50.5M.

2. Re-sign C.J Gardner-Johnson

The Eagles have longed for a playmaking safety since the departure of Malcolm Jenkins. After trading a fourth-round pick to the Saints for Gardner-Johnson, the Eagles’ secondary was given a major boost. Gardner-Johnson ended the season tied for a league-leading six interceptions despite him playing in only 12 games. Along with his skillset, Gardner-Johnson brings a different type of energy into the Eagles’ locker room, one that resonates with the fanbase.

My Prediction: Gardner-Johnson re-signs for a three-year, $30M with an annual salary of $10M.

3. Draft a cornerback with the 10th pick

Top cornerback James Bradberry is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. While I do believe the Eagles will attempt to re-sign the Second-Team All-Pro, it is crucial the team gets younger at cornerback, and this draft class appears loaded with young talent at the position.

My Prediction: Eagles draft cornerback Devon Witherspoon out of Illinois with the 10th pick

4. Secure a young pass-rusher alongside Reddick

The Eagles’ defense has some age to it, particularly along the defensive line. Brandon Graham, 34, who is having a bounce-back campaign after tearing his Achilles, is set to be an unrestricted free agent. Moreover, I could see the team bringing him back on a one-year as depth or to retire, but regardless, they need to get younger.

My Prediction: Eagles sign Marcus Davenport to 1-year, $11M deal.

5. Let Miles Sanders walk in free agency

This one may be more unpopular than the rest, however, it’s a smart move. The Eagles have been rotating running backs as of late due to the emergence of Kenneth Gainwell. Sanders, who is coming off of a career year, is going to want to get paid. The team could decide to use the franchise tag on the Pro Bowl running back, which would cost $10.1M. However, I believe the team should go a different route.

My Prediction: Eagles let Sanders walk and draft Zach Charbonnet out of UCLA with their second-round pick

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman put together a remarkable offseason prior to this one ahead. Therefore, it is fair to think Roseman should have similar success this time around. The signings of Haason Reddick, Kyzir White, and A.J. Brown, after a draft-day trade, have paved the way for the Eagles to compete for its second Super Bowl in franchise history. Furthermore, the Eagles are close to completion of a pure dominant season as they are just one win away from another Super Bowl. While our focus should be on the next game, its hard not to think about what follows.
