Eagles
The Eagles come in at 14-3 in the regular season, 16-3 overall. For every week other than three they looked like the best team in football. Getting AJ Brown in the off-season was a huge add, as he has been nothing but great since coming over. Add that to an Eagles team that has only grown from the playoff loss last year, and you have a squad that has been nearly unstoppable. Jalen Hurts has done wonders this year, and he leads a team that loves to throw it early to then be able to lean on the ground attack to finish a team off. The Eagles have the best offensive line in football, along with maybe the best defensive line in football. The defense for the Eagles almost broke the sack record this year, and they are really good at making opposing QBs uncomfortable.
Nick Sirianni has done an amazing job in his second year with the squad. He is one of the most electrifying coaches in football right now, and you can tell the guys love him and play so hard for him. The big injuries for this game will be Jalen hurts, Lane Johnson, and Landon Dickerson. Hurts has been hurt for a few games and seems to be playing fine. As for the other two, it’s a bit more concerning. Dickerson hurt his elbow last week, and it will be interesting to see if a week off will help him heal. As for Johnson, he is just ready for the season to be over. He has had a torn groin for about a month now, and tore it again at least once since the playoffs have been going on. He is touching through the injury, so it will be a watch on him to see if he can make it just one more game.
Another issue for the Eagles is “playing meaningful football.” It’s been about a month or two since the Eagles have played a full four quarters, as they have been beating teams so bad. While it may not even matter, that does have some people concerned. With arguably the best quarterback they have played all year and best in the league in Patrick Mahomes up next, they will have a tough test yet again.
Chiefs
As for the Kansas City Chiefs, they find themselves in yet another Super Bowl after winning the AFC title game, which they have played in five years in a row. Mahomes and Travis Kelce lead an offense commanded by the very intelligent football mind of Andy Reid. This team was not expected to do this again after losing Tyreek Hill, but Mahomes continues to show why he is the best QB in the league. The Chiefs finished 14-3 regular season and 16-3 overall as well, and they find themselves in a great place to cement their dynasty. With a nice group of new guys all around Mahomes, they have been effective together. From JuJu Smith Schuster, to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, to even Isiah Pacheco, all of these guys have stepped up. Pacheco might be the best of the group however, as the 7th round rookie has taken control of a RB room that had Ronald Jones, Clyde Edwards-Heliare, and Jerrick Mckinnion. The defense as well has been playing really well. Led by Chris Jones and Nick Bolton, the defense has done a better job of playing complimentary football and helping out Mahomes.
The key for the Chiefs will be to get timely stops and scores. If they allow the Eagles to move the ball up and down the field on offense, then the Eagles will eat the clock away. Along with that, the offense has to be able to keep up if it’s a shootout. That last one shouldn’t be a problem for Mahomes though. The Chiefs have a chance to prove that they are the better team. With a week off, Mahomes ankle will hopefully be fully healed by the game. It’s gonna be hard to bet against Mahomes, but the Eagles probably have the best team on paper. The Chiefs are also dealing with injuries at wide receiver. Mecole Hardman is out and just put on IR. Also, JuJu and Toney are questionable as of February 6th.
Will the Chiefs avenge their last Super Bowl loss and become the new dynasty of the NFL? Or will the Eagles win the first Super Bowl of the Nick Sirianni era? Sunday should be a fun offensive batter between the best team in football, and the best QB in football.
