Indy Fumbles Away Game vs Washington

Indy vs Washington was a low scoring battle on Sunday. Between two huge fumbles in enemy territory and a really good final drive by the Commanders, the Colts lost 17-16 on Sunday. There were some promising moments for the Colts, but they could just not get it done against Washington.

Commanders

The Commanders seem like a whole different team with Taylor Heinicke at the helm. While they may not be scoring a lot right now, the vibes on the team feel more confident. Terry McLaurin made his NFL debut in his home town and looked amazing. He had 6 receptions for 113 yards and the play of the day that set up the dagger touchdown. He is now 5-0 in Lucas Oil between high school (Cathedral), college (Ohio State), and now professionally with the Commanders.

This was a really good and much needed win for this Commanders team. Heinicke is now 2-0 this year. As of now I find it hard for them to move him out of the starting role.

Colts

The Colts just continue to be one of the hardest watches on offense. Sam Ehlinger had his moments today and looked promising, but the offense as a whole just honestly fell apart in big moments. Ehlinger fumbled in enemy territory on the verge of points. Jonathan Taylor looks like he is about to break one and he fumbled away points. The pass rush seems tired so Heinicke has time to find Scary Terry down the field at the end of the game. Michael Pittman dropped a huge pass that gave the Colts a chance to maybe go for a game winning field goal. Week after week after week this team just seems to suck the life out of itself.

Another issue is putting weapons on the field. Jelani Woods is a big and athletic man. Mo Allie-Cox is a big athletic man. These guys should be on the field together more, but it seems like they take each other’s plays and neither can break through. Shaquille Leonard is one of if not the Colts best defender. Why the Colts cannot figure out how to put him and Zaire Franklin on the field together is beyond me. As a fan it’s frustrating, this team has so much talent and potential. The bright side is that the Colts did show some promise with Ehlinger on Sunday. Along with that, the offense had life and was able to put together some solid drives. Hopefully there will be improvement next week and they can build from there.

Next Week

In the aftermath of Indy vs Washington and now on a three game win streak, the Commanders find themselves at 4-4. They now are going back home to play the Vikings. This is a huge game for the Commanders, and it will be interesting to see if they can stay hot and beat a really good Minnesota team. As for the Colts, they are 3-4-1 traveling to play New England. Both the Colts and New England have had some rough times this year so far. This game could go a long way as a get right game for either team.
