Joe Flacco Cleveland Browns

Joe Flacco is known for an all-time performance back in the 2013 Super Bowl run with the Baltimore Ravens. However, the Ravens would later give up on him as their franchise’s all-time great to draft Lamar Jackson.

Since then Flacco became known as a journeyman quarterback, jumping from team to team. After sitting out for half of the 2023 season, Flacco is recreating his magic and ready to bring his former rival the Cleveland Browns on the very same Super Bowl run.

Flacco’s Magic

In 2013, everyone knew the Ravens were going to be Super Bowl Contenders because of their defense. They had future Hall of Famers and elite talent all over the field with guys like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs.

However, the jury was still out on a young Joe Flacco who was starting to come into his own. With judgment surrounding whether he can come up clutch, he did that and surprised everyone by becoming Super Bowl MVP.

Flacco’s playoff run consisted of facing the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, and the New England Patriots before facing the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. He combined for 11 touchdowns, 1,140 yards, and a passer rating of 117.2. One word to describe it was Immaculate.

Unfortunately, everyone assumed he would be a player who would be in the same conversations as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger year after year bringing the Ravens to the AFC Championship. This would lead to him seeing his career fall rather quickly.

Journeyman to Jobless

After the Ravens drafted Lamar Jackson, Flacco knew his time in Baltimore was winding down. After the 2018 season, the Ravens traded Flacco to the Denver Broncos for a 4th round draft pick.

Since then Flacco would struggle to reclaim the performance he had for his tenure in Baltimore, and later would bounce from team to team and then became a free agent. After being on the couch for most of the 2023 season and being forgotten about, the last opportunity came.

Lightning Strikes Twice

With a season-ending injury to the Browns starter Deshaun Watson, Flacco got one last chance to prove he can play in the NFL. In addition, this wasn’t just him getting one last chance he was allowed to bring a playoff-caliber team to the playoffs just like he did with the Ravens.

In just five games Flacco has easily been one of the best QBs in the league, throwing for 1,160 yards, 13 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 90.2. He has just as many if not more touchdowns than 5 NFL teams. (Jets, Steelers, Titans, Panthers, and Giants) I believe we could be seeing history repeat itself with Flacco, with the Browns being a major Super Bowl Contender now.

Joe Flacco is putting up record numbers in his resurgence and is showing he still can sling the ball. If any team moving forward for next year with needs at the quarterback position, Flacco’s name needs to be in the mix.
