For Embiid, 76ers it's Now or Never

Joel Embiid was ruled out for the 76ers game Tuesday night against OKC but was suddenly returned to the starting lineup for the game. This has caught the attention of the NBA who are now investigating how Embiid went from out to being questionable hours before the game, According to TNT’s Jordan Greenberg

Embiid, 30, was upgraded to questionable about ninety minutes before tipoff, but he did not receive treatment at the arena after missing Tuesday’s shootaround.

Sixers head coach Nick Nurse anticipated a minutes restriction for the MVP-winning big man before Tuesday’s game.

For the Sixers, Embiid usually played 35 minutes a night; but, on Tuesday, he only played 29. The big man seemed comfortable, although he had some rust to shake off initially.

This season, the NBA has already fined the 76ers $75,000 for “failing to include Joel Embiid on the team’s injury report in an accurate and timely manner” before their Jan. 27 game in Denver versus the Nuggets.

The Sixers (41-35) clinched the play-in round by their No. 8 ranking in the Eastern Conference going into Wednesday.

The 76ers trailed the Pacers by two games for the 6th seed and the Heat by 1.5 games for 7th. They play the Heat away on Thursday.

Philadelphia will play the Grizzlies, Spurs, Pistons, Magic, and Nets in their final five games.

Embiid’s offensive often dominates the conversation, yet his defensive impact shines when healthy, establishing him as a premier rim protector. This dual proficiency underscores his status as a formidable force on both ends of the court. Even with his extended absence, Embiid’s contribution to the paint on Tuesday was noticeable.

Joel Embiid boosted the Sixers in beating OKC 109-105 following his 29-game absence. The Sixers now have their focus on the Miami Heat.
