Former San Antonio Spurs guard Joshua Primo is accused of multiple instances of sexual misconduct and indecent exposure. San Antonio released Primo Friday to the confusion of many fans prior to the allegations being made public.
Primo is the 12th pick overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2021 NBA Draft. The nineteen-year-old prospect recently had his team option picked up for the 2023-2024 season. Today, Primo expectedly cleared waivers although teams are monitoring the situation as it develops.
The woman accusing Primo is an employee of the San Antonio Spurs but as of now, her identity remains anonymous. Attorney Tony Buzbee will represent her. Buzbee is the same attorney who represented the defendants in the Deshaun Watson sexual misconduct cases.
Primo released a statement to ESPN on Friday, stating “I know that you all are surprised by today’s announcement. I’ve been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time.”
Longtime San Antonio Head Coach Gregg Popovich declined to comment on the situation for now. Spurs CEO R.C. Buford released a statement saying “”It is our hope that, in the long run, this decision will serve the best interest of both the organization and Joshua.”
Primo began the season averaging seven points per game coming off of the bench. He did not play the last couple games with the team citing an injury. However, it is apparent the team was aware of the Primo sexual misconduct allegations and moved to act accordingly.
