On Thursday night, the Milwaukee Brewers started a four-game road weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds. It was an excellent start to a crucial series as Brewers won game one 5-1 behind Kolten Wong who smacked three home runs.

Here is how the day went for Wong who was the entire source of RBI’s for the Brew Crew.

Big Blasts

In four at-bats, Wong recorded three hits, all of which were home runs, and five RBI’s from those blasts.

The second inning began with a crucial walk to Hunter Renfroe. Two pitches later Wong blasted his 13th homer of the season.

After four quiet innings, the sixth inning started with a bang. The first batter was Rowdy Tellez who drew a walk. Two batters later Wong hit a line drive missile that just cleared the top of the right field wall for his second two-run homer.

In the eighth inning, the Crew was up by three and looking to add some insurance runs. With two outs and nobody on Wong absolutely obliterated a ball down the right field line for his third homer.

A Career Best

This was an excellent day for Wong who is not known for his power and has gone through more than his fair share of struggles this season.

First of all, this was his first three home run game of his 10-season MLB career. It was his second multi-homer game of this season joining when he hit two against the San Diego Padres on June 5th.

In regards to his five RBIs, it is the most he has ever had in a game. His previous best was four which he accomplished four different times, including on July 27, 2015, against the Reds. His previous most in a game this season was three which he did twice.

Kolten Wong has made most of his career headlines from some incredible defensive play, but in a crucial late September game, he made headlines with some power. It was a career-best day for the talented second baseman as he gave the Crew all the run support they needed to win. He has been hitting much better as of late. The Brewers will be in a great position to win consistently if he continues his hot hitting.
