Lonnie Walker IV has had an inconsistent career thus far. His first four years with the San Antonio Spurs were up and down, with last year being one of his statistical best. Many were shocked when the Los Angeles Lakers used their mid-level exception to sign him. Walker has a lot of upside, with his elite athleticism and overall offensive game, but his role in the team is still a mystery.

At the beginning of the season, Walker was poised to become the Lakers’ third option behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He was averaging 15.1 points a game before an injury sidelined him. The former University of Miami standout returned in. late January, but the team hasn’t been able to utilize him fully. The team’s moves at the trade deadline has seemingly regulated him to the end of the bench despite having a career year.

Lonnie Walker IV Posts An Inspirational Quote On Instagram

Walker’s latest Instagram post is an incredible quote that demonstrates his positive outlook on life. Despite falling out of the rotation in the past month, Walker continued to stay motivated and focused on his craft. The acquisition of Malik Beasley and the team option in his contract make him a more valuable asset to the future of the Lakers. With the Lakers dwindling cap space, Walker’s future role seems to be in flux.

However, with the latest injury to the 38-year-old James, the team may have to turn to Walker to fill the void. The team will have to rely on all their depth with the “King” out for what looks to be an extended absence. If the Lakers have faith in Walker and he becomes the team’s anchor, he has a bright future ahead of him. If nothing else, helping the Lakers make the postseason will make him more desirable to other teams in free agency.
