Since joining the Mariners back in June, Victor Robles has been a breath of fresh air in the M’s lineup. At the time, it was a low-risk and high-reward type of signing for the Mariners. They had a struggling offense that seemed like it couldn’t be fixed. Fast forward a month and the Mariners are extending the 27-year-old outfielder, according to Yancen Pujols. It’s a two year extension with an option for 2027.
Robles has been playing centerfield with Julio Rodriguez out. Since joining the Mariners, Robles has hit .303/.372/.450 with 7 2Bs, 3 HRs, 8 RBI’s and 12 SBs. He also has a 16.2% K rate and an OPS+ of 140 with the Mariners. As of now, it’s likely that Victor Robles will continue to be the Mariners leadoff hitter. Even once, J.P. Crawford returns.
The Mariners made some key acquisitions at the trade deadline as well. Both, Randy Arozarena and Justin Turner have been huge for a Mariners lineup that has improved since the All-Star break. The trio of Robles, Turner and Arozarena has brought some much-needed consistency.
Robles is a former Top 100 prospect during his time with the Nationals, where he won a World Series. It hasn’t been easy sailing for Robles since joining the Mariners, however, he had to earn his spot in the Mariners starting lineup.
With the extension of Robles, the Mariners now have their starting outfield (Rodriguez, Arozarena and Robles) locked in for the 2025 campaign. The deal is a demonstration of the Mariners being willing to reward hard work. Coming into the 2024 campaign, they wanted to focus on less strikeouts. Robles has come in and done what the Mariners have asked him to do. All while, having some fun and energizing the locker room around him as well.
The Mariners have certainly had their share of failed outfield prospects. At just 27 years old, Robles fits in with the roster for years to come.
