After the Brooklyn Nets controlled the first half, the Philadelphia 76ers took over the second half in a commanding 96-84 victory taking a 2-0 series lead.
“Why don’t we put the scout team in,” Doc Rivers said. “I thought we wasted the whole first half.”
After James Harden‘s Game 1 23-point performance, he struggled to score eight points, shooting 3-13 from the field. Tyrese Maxey stepped up for Harden’s poor shooting with 33 points, shooting 13-23 from the field and 6-13 from three.
“I just wanna win, man,” Maxey said.
Alongside Maxey, Joel Embiid had 20 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists. Even in a low-scoring game, the 76ers were able to fight through their shooting woes and edge out a Game 2 victory as the series heads to Brooklyn with the 76ers having a 2-0 series lead.
The Nets showed hope of stealing a game very similar to Game 1 as Cameron Johnson scored 22 first-half points. Johnson finished the game with 28 points, shooting 11-19 from the field, but had a highlight poster dunk on Embiid in the first half.
“I don’t remember getting dunked on,” Embiid said.
Other than Johnson, Brooklyn’s scoring came from Mikal Bridges with 21 points, shooting 6-15 after his 30 points performance in Game 1.
A pivotal Game 3 for the Nets will take place Thursday at 7:30, as the 76ers will look to close out the series on their Brooklyn road trip.
