Mike Moustakas has been traded to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for right-handed prospect, Connor Van Scoyoc. Moustakas, who signed a one-year, $720K contract with the Rockies, will contribute to a well-performing Angels team in hopes to land a wild card spot.Van Scoyoc was drafted 331st overall by the Angels and has a 4.40 ERA over four minor league seasons.

Mike Moustakas is having a pretty solid season in 2023 after scuffling at the plate in recent years. This season, Moustakas is hitting .270/.360/.435 with four home runs and 17 runs batted in. He is also putting up an OPS+ of 107 this season. The OPS+ is great compared to his previous two seasons where he put up only 68 and 74.

The Angels Set Two Franchise Records in One Game

This trade between the two western division teams comes directly after an Angels 25-1 blowout against the Colorado Rockies. This absolute offensive explosion from the Angels set a new franchise record for most runs scored in a single game. On top of this record, the Halos also set another franchise record for most runs scored in a single inning with 13. Within the record setting inning, the Angels lineup crushed back-to-back-to-back home runs.

With this win, the Angels find themselves six games behind the first place Rangers in the AL West. However, they currently hold one of the four AL wild card spots. The Angels are hoping to continue playing good baseball and return to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
