Breaking News: Ja Morant out indefinitely with Grade 1 left ankle sprain

The Memphis guard is off to the best start of his career, though that may be in jeopardy as he suffered a left ankle sprain and will be out on a week-to-week basis.

On Friday evening, the star point guard had 19 points on 5-for-20 shooting and added 11 assists before hobbling to the locker room due to a left ankle injury with 3:09 remaining. As Steven Adams and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl fought for a rebound, Morant appeared to get his feet tangled with Luguentz Dort. Morant quickly crumpled to the floor in serious pain, and he had to be helped onto his feet by the team’s training staff. He did not return to the game.

Ja Morant has been having an MVP-caliber season, as he entered Friday averaging 29 points per contest to help the Grizzlies stay in competition as they have battled with injuries at the beginning of the season. As Morant becomes one of the better players in the league, one question remains: can he stay healthy? He only played 57 games last season due to a variety of injuries, and the incredibly aggressive way that he plays combined with his rare athleticism makes him something of an injury risk.

The Grizzlies will lean on backup point guard Tyus Jones, until Morant is ready to return to action.

This is breaking news… more to come.
