The 2023 NFL season was the most disappointing in Patriots history, after parting ways with Bill Belichick the New England Patriots offseason this year will be the biggest in 23 years.

The Patriots have a lot of priorities to fix if they want to be able to contend for the playoffs, in a recent interview new head coach Jerod Mayo teased fans by announcing that they will “burn cash” with over 65 million dollars in salary cap available.

So what will the Patriots do? Here are some ideas that can help them be able to make a quick jump back into contention.

Third Overall Pick

The Patriots hold the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the first time in the top five since 1994. With the Quarterback position being one of the most important positions in football, the Patriots do have a hole to fix there.

However, the Patriots should draft Marvin Harrison Jr from Ohio State. The receiver position has been a major talking point for the past few seasons, the Patriots do not have a player within the top 70 in receiving yards.

Drafting a quarterback in the first round can sometimes not workout, especially when your going to put them in mess with no weapons at their disposable. So drafting Harrison Jr would be the best scenario.

Quarterback Struggles

Since making the playoffs in 2020, the Patriots have struggled at the quarterback position. With a great rookie performance by Mac Jones in 2020, he has since then he has shared playing time on and off with Bailey Zappe.

However, Mac Jones does deserve a fair shot at being the starter due to Belichick hurting his career by having coaches who never coached offense before help develop a young promising quarterback. In his rookie year, Jones threw for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only 13 interceptions. Since then, Jones has regressed slowly but getting him some offensive help I think can lead him back to being a franchise quarterback.

New England Patriots offseason this year is going to be one that they can’t mess up. Head coach Jerod Mayo has a lot to do starting now. Coach Mayo needs to be able to show he can help land on the draft picks this year or he could be facing trouble in a few years.
