The Oregon Civil War will live on at last. After a multiple-team 2024 schedule shuffle, the Oregon Ducks will also play 13 games. One of those is slated for Week Zero. Per John Canzano, as of now, there will be a home-and-home schedule through 2025.
Both Oregon and Oregon State Football Programs had some interest in renewing the rivalry. It was just a matter of how that would happen. Well according to reports, the Ducks have worked out some magic. Texas Tech who was originally supposed to play the University of Oregon in 2024, will now be playing Washington State on the same day that game was scheduled.
Boise State, who was slated to play in Eugene on Sept. 14 will now play at Autzen Stadium one week earlier. The Beavers were originally scheduled to face the Broncos on that day, but that game will be moved to later in the year.
Pacific Northwest foes Washington and Washington State have already planned the continuation of the Apple Cup. That rivalry will continue through 2028. There are of course still some hurt feelings after the fallout of the Pac-12, but most everyone will likely be happy to see both PNW rivalries continue.
Schedule for 2024 Oregon Ducks:
- Week 0: at Hawai’i, Aug. 24
- Week 1: Idaho, Aug. 31
- Week 2: Boise State, Sept. 7
- Week 3: at Oregon State, Sept. 14
- Week 4: Bye
- Week 5: at UCLA, Sept. 28
- Week 6: Michigan State, Oct. 5
- Week 7: Ohio State, Oct. 12
- Week 8: at Purdue, Oct. 19
- Week 9: Illinois, Oct. 26
- Week 10: at Michigan, Nov. 2
- Week 11: Maryland, Nov. 9
- Week 12: at Wisconsin, Nov. 16
- Week 13: Bye
- Week 14: Washington, Nov. 30
There are only nine weeks of Conference matchups in the BIG TEN, which is where Oregon, USC, UCLA and Washington are headed. The 2024 schedule for Oregon features a week-zero matchup against Hawai’i, which makes it possible for them to add another game. The Oregon-Oregon State is one of the oldest college football rivalries, beginning in 1894.
My take: Big fan of the addition. It was kind of sad that everyone thought the 2023 Civil War would be the last. Especially after Oregon State has been a team on the rise over the past couple of seasons. No matter, if the two schools aren’t in the same conference anymore there is still a lot of history not to have the rivalry game.
