Tuesday morning, the PGA Tour announced an overhaul with regards to the 2021-2022 schedule. Within the forty-eight events on the schedule, there are numerous changes from the traditional schedule that fans expect.
PGA Tour Schedule Change 1: The Addition of The Scottish Open
So, we will start with the biggest change, which is the addition of the Scottish Open. This tournament is the prelude to the Open Championship the following week. Normally PGA Tour players will head to Scotland to warm up for the British Open, but this is not normally a points-paying event on tour. However, this event is a staple of the European Tour.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan spoke about the excitement of this partnership between the PGA and European Tour,
“I am pleased to say that the PGA TOUR and the European Tour are both stronger than at any time in our history, as we are positioned to grow – together – over the next 10 years faster than we have at any point in our existence. We are committed to continuing to evolve and adapt, and with our ever-strengthening partnership with the European Tour, to take the global game to the heights we all know it is capable of.”
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan
In return, European Tour players will have the opportunity to play in PGA Tour events. The events are the Barbasol Championship and the Barracuda Championship. The Barbasol Championship will be the alternate event to the Scottish Open. In addition, the Barracuda Championship will be the alternate event to the British Open.
Change 2: The Playoffs
The next big change will be regarding the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the end of the season. This is not about the big change of it being split between NBC and CBS. The big change on the schedule is where the Playoffs will start. Since the inception of the FedEx Cup in 2007 has begun in the New York Metropolitan Region. However, next season it will begin in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The remainder of the playoffs will have the same schedule as in years past.
However, there are no big changes to the rest of the schedule for the 2021-2022 season for the remainder of the season.
