Philadelphia Eagles 2023-2024 Season Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles have nothing more to prove in 2023-2024. Outside of losing the Super Bowl by a field goal, the 2022-2023 season was successful for them in every way imaginable. Jalen Hurts finally stepped up and proved to be an MVP candidate towards the beginning of the season.

Key Losses

Coming off of their Super Bowl LVII appearance, the Eagles lost some contributors in free agency, including Javon Hargrave, C.J. Gardner Johnson, Marcus Epps and Miles Sanders. In total they lost seven starters.

Key Additions

QB Marcus Mariota

Mariota to Philly has finally happened. Back in 2015, then-head coach Chip Kelly aggressively tried to trade up in the draft to select his former Oregon QB, to no avail. Now Mariota has landed as the backup to Jalen Hurts. There’s some considerable value at the No. 2 position. Mariota has similar qualities to Hurts as well as much game experience. If he’s called upon the Philadelphia Eagles won’t have to worry too much about during the 2023-2024 campaign.

RB Rashaad Penny

In order to replace the run ability of Sanders, the Eagles needed to add a starter-caliber running back. With Penny, that’s what they are getting as long as he can stay healthy.

S Terrell Edmunds

After losing both Gardner-Johnson and Epps in free agency, the Eagles needed to rebuild their defensive secondary. Edmunds has started 75 games since coming into the league. He had 70 tackles, zero interceptions, five passes defensed and two sacks in 15 games for the Steelers last year. He’ll have a good chance to earn a starting spot on the Eagles roster.

LB Nicholas Morrow

Another position that the Eagles need to rebuild is Linebacker. After the team lost both Kyzir White and T.J. Edwards. Morrow will enter the mix of guys who could earn some time at the Linebacker position. Morrow had a career-high 115 tackles and 11 tackles for loss last season for the Bears while starting all 17 games but had modest production before that during his time with the Raiders.

Season Outlook

Despite losing seven starters, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking replenished and ready to compete in the 2023-2024 season. With much of the roster from last year still intact, the Eagles could make another deep run in the playoffs. The NFC East can be a tough, competitive division, but the Eagles appear to be the clear front-runners heading into the 2023 season.
