Purdue VS Iowa Preview

College Football Week 6 Preview
Rich Barnes – USA Today

A three and two Purdue is headed to Iowa City, Iowa, to face off against an undefeated and number two ranked Iowa this Saturday at 2:30 central.

Iowa is coming off a win against the number four ranked at the time, Penn State. Purdue is coming off of a bye the past week but also a loss week five against Minnesota.

Purdue is looking to bounce back this season with an underdog win. Iowa has its eyes set on the College Football Playoffs, and Purdue is just another step to that. Who will come out victories in this Big Ten Showdown? Let’s find out!

How Will Iowa Win This Game?

Everyone already knows the answer to this question, the defense. Iowa’s defense has shown everyone time and time again that they can dominate a game. They are coming into this game already having 16 interceptions in only six games, and they were by nine different players. The defense also only allows 274 total yards and 90.3 rushing yards a game. If their defense stays out, then this game will be in the bag early.

The biggest thing that Iowa needs to figure out this game and the games coming up is their offense needs to get better. Their offense is pretty average but is consistent. They also only average a little over 300 total yards a game. Spencer Petras only has 1,138 passing yards and nine touchdowns. Tyler Goodson only has 518 rushing yards and only five touchdowns. These two players have to have better numbers to be able to compete against the great teams.

How will Purdue Win This Game?

Purdue is lucky that this game is coming off of their bye week. Their defense will have to be great this game. They have to keep them from scoring because their offense may not be able to score. Purdue has only allowed eight touchdowns in these five games. Their defense is not as great as Iowa’s, but it is has played pretty well this season. They need to create turnovers and be able to compete with Iowa’s defense.

Purdue’s offense has had its ups and downs this season. They begin the season with Aidan O’Connell but switched him after his five interceptions. Jack Plummer was put in and is playing pretty great so far with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. Plummer will have to continue to play flawlessly because Iowa’s defense is an interception machine. They need to be able to pass and run the ball this game. Purdue needs to have the best game they have had all year.

Final Thoughts

Iowa is going to have an easy ride this game. Their defense will play as great as they have been. The story will be their offense, but I think they will be able to compete. Purdue on the other hand will have to figure out how to score against Iowa’s defense. The turnover battle will be the biggest factor in this game and Iowa will be able to win it.

My prediction: Iowa wins 35 to 7.
