This past Saturday at Payback, Finn Balor and Damian Priest defeated Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to become the new Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions and gave every member of The Judgement Day a piece of gold.
Rhea Ripley has been thrashing through Raw’s Women’s division as Women’s World Champion. Dominik Mysterio has capitalized on his major heat by becoming NXT North American Champion. Despite multiple PLE losses to Seth Rollins, Finn Balor has now captured tag gold, and gained grand slam status.
But the true wildcard here is Damian Priest.
The Judgement Day’s Path to Greatness
Priest, as we know, is Mr. Money in the Bank. This means he has a guaranteed shot at a title of his choosing for up to a year. But why wait?
In his latest storyline against Shinsuke Nakamura, Seth Rollins has had a lot of focus on his health. Nakamura has brought attention to and targeted his ailing back, which was evident in their own Payback matchup.
This is a built-in weakness for the champion that presents itself as a target for Mr. Money in the Bank, especially with his array of finishing maneuvers that all target the back.
Despite winning the tag titles, Balor and Priest have had dissension since Priest became Mr. Money in the Bank due to his interferences in Balor’s title matches, whether accidental or not. But they’ve also butt heads on aspiring member JD McDonagh.
McDonagh has expressed his desire to be a part of The Judgement Day alongside his mentor Balor, and even interfered in their match at Payback. If McDonagh is successful in his quest into the stable, he could even defend the tag titles with Balor under the Freebird Rule as Priest goes after the World Heavyweight Championship.
Rollins and The Judgement Day have been the focal points of Raw alongside Cody Rhodes since the Draft, and Priest cashing in to become a world champion would present him and The Judgement Day as even bigger threats.
With an expansion of the group, possession of the most important title on the brand, and still having everyone holding gold, The Judgement Day could present themselves as one of the most successful stables in WWE history.
