Training camp has begun for the Rams, and they are already off to a hot start. There have been a few key notes that have come out of practices, and we’ll take a look at them in this article. What rookies are making an impact? Has Allen Robinson adjusted to his new threads? What’s the latest on Sean McVay’s contract negotiations?

Rookie Corners Duking It Out

It didn’t take long to hear good things about rookie corners Decobie Durant and Derion Kendrick. Derion Kendrick, the Clemson transfer turned Georgia Bulldog national champion, was the first to be put on watch. On Wednesday, Kendrick broke up a pair of passes intended for Allen Robinson in the end zone. McVay had high praises for the 6th-round pick.

Kendrick had a few concerns off of the field, as well as questions about whether he could keep up with NFL-level speed. He may lack track-like speed, but he does have instincts. Kendrick started for four years at power five schools; he could be the Rams’ most recent late-round steal.

Decobie Durant has also impressed in his first week of training camp. Durant picked two passes off, one of them a pass from Stafford intended for Cooper Kupp. Durant is the Rams’ attempt at an answer to the slot position for the future. This news is a good indication they didn’t whiff, but time will tell. Durant was the MEAC DPOY last year and had a phenomenal game against a much stronger opponent in Clemson.

This is great news for the Rams considering they prioritized their secondary in the draft this year. While carving a week one starting spot may be a tad bit optimistic, both rookie corners should find themselves on the field in 2022.

The Stafford/Robinson Connection

On the offensive side of the ball, the biggest news so far has been how much the staff loves Allen Robinson. Coaches have raved not only about his on-field performance, but also his dedication off of it. His versatility is something coaches are excited about, as well as his route tree. Having two wide receivers that can run virtually any route from anywhere is fantastic to think about. Robinson is in for a big year, as defenses will have months to prepare for Cooper Kupp. While Kupp’s production is bound to decrease at least a bit, Robinson is the clear-cut WR2 for the Rams. Making him one of the most, if not the most, dangerous WR2s in the league.

McVay Confident Contract Will Be Done Soon

While he could have gone off into the sunset in Super Bowl glory to make millions of dollars calling games, McVay had other plans. Rams head coach Sean McVay is back in training camp, which means Boy Wonder is back in business. The Rams have handed out quite the bankroll this offseason, extending Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, signing Allen Robinson and Bobby Wagner, and giving Aaron Donald a raise. Sean McVay is due next, and it seems the deal will likely be done before week one. The deal will likely make him the highest-paid coach in the league, estimated at around $15M a year.

PUP List

After needing surgery this offseason, Jalen Ramsey was originally placed on the PUP list. Rams head coach Sean McVay was then told Ramsey was cleared for limited participation a few days later, meaning he no longer needed to be on the PUP list. Jalen Ramsey had this to say about the situation.

Keeping Jalen healthy will be a big goal for the Rams during training camp.

Rookies (DB) Quinten Lake and (RB) Kyren Williams began training camp on the PUP list. There isn’t much info on Lake’s injury, but hopefully, he can get back soon to take some much-needed reps before the preseason. Williams had his foot surgically corrected and is waiting to get cleared. The hope is for him to be back before preseason games. (LB) Travin Howard is also on the PUP list with a groin injury. He is expected to be back before the season begins.

Jersey Schedule Released

The Rams have officially released the schedules for what jersey they will wear each week in 2022!

The “Bone” jerseys are already dwindling away.
