Skippylongstocking, one of the best-named horses who’s partaken in the Triple Crown, performed well this past weekend in the Belmont Stakes. Skippy was not a favorite contender for winning the Belmont Stakes and was at 20-1 odds at the start of the morning line. Skippy fell short of winning the Belmont, but he ended up in Third place over the favorite We the People and the Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike. Skippy raced in the Preakness Stakes, ending in 5th, winning 49,500 for Trainer Saffie Joseph.

However, as one of the horses with horrible odds under him, he’s performed better and better every race. I picked Skippy showing in the Belmont as he started 2nd in the gate. Skippy had no shot of winning, but after placing third trainer, Saffie Joseph was pleased with the outcome. When we asked Saffie what he thought of Skippylongstocking placing third, he said, “He (Skippylongstocking) ran big. Proud of him.” We don’t know what’s next for Skippy and if he runs in any other major races, but we know he will always be a fan favorite because of his great name!
