Southampton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Saint Mary’s Stadium.
1st Half
Xhaka and Jesus had two good chances in the first five minutes that were saved and hit the side netting respectively. Xhaka found Ødegaard on the edge of the 18-yard box but the Norwegian dragged his shot wide. The first goal of the match came in the tenth minute. Saka played in Ben White down the right flank, he took a couple of touches before playing in an inch-perfect cross to Xhaka who rifled it into the roof of the net.
Jesus had another chance that hit the side netting. Partey intercepted a pass in the middle of the pitch and played in Ødegaard. He then found Jesus with a first-time pass and it had a similar outcome to his first chance.
The Saints were on the ascendancy from the 32nd minute to the 39th. They created half chances via corners and throw-ins but Arsenal defended well.
Two minutes before halftime, Ødegaard and Jesus played a lovely 1,2 in the box but the Brazilian’s shot was saved by Gavin Bazunu.

Southampton came out of the locker room on the front foot. They created openings and won a few set pieces from their effort. Soon after, Arsenal reasserted their dominance.
Stewart Armstrong equalized in the 64th minute. Mohamed Elyounoussi found the Scot after he made a run into the box and slid the ball past Ramsdale.
The equalizer gave Southampton confidence and they went on to dominate the match.
