Title Race Over For Manchester United?

Another season has begun for Manchester United, and the same problems continue to appear. For the past two seasons under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United have always lacked a consistent playing style. Give for example last season, Ole’s boys managed to beat RB Leipzig 5-0 and PSG 1-2 in Paris, but struggled to beat Istanbul Basaksehir. United signed 3 world class players this summer, but the consistency problems continue to arise this season so far.

This morning, Manchester United dropped points in the Premier League again. This time, they managed to get a 1-1 draw against Everton. With this result, the ‘Red Devils’ now have 2 straight home games without winning in the league. Despite only being 3 points behind current first place Chelsea, this could be the start of a slump of bad form.

Struggling at Old Trafford Again

As mentioned previously, Manchester United had another sloppy home game. In the first half, both teams had many chances to go forward in score. Nevertheless, both goalkeepers, David De Gea and Jordan Pickford, kept things nil to nil. It wasn’t until the 42′ minute when Bruno Fernandes set up Anthony Martial to put the ‘Red Devils’ up in the score.

Despite starting off well in the second half, United will have themselves to blame for giving up the 1-0 lead. In the 64′ minute, Fred loses the ball in the midfield and this automatically turns into an Everton counterattack. All 4 defenders were drawn by Doucoure to leave Townshend alone in the penalty box to make it 1-1. Ironically, Townshend celebrated his goal by doing Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature celebration.

Things seemed to be getting worse for Ole’s boys as Yerry Mina thought to have scored the winning goal in the dying minutes. The referee was told by VAR that Mina was offside, thus overruling the goal. What a close one for Manchester United.

Nevertheless, it looks as if Manchester United are entering a patch of bad form. If this occurs, Cristiano Ronaldo and the Red Devils will have to kiss their title hopes goodbye. With Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool all getting results, United will have to grind out wins to stay in the race.
