On Sunday, the NHL announced the names of the four coaches heading to the 2024 NHL All-Star Game. Rick Bowness, Peter Laviolette, Rick Tocchet, and Jim Montgomery will each coach one of the four teams in the 3-on-3 tournament. The league picked the coaches based on the teams with the highest points percentage in each of the four divisions through Saturday’s games.
Peter Laviolette
New York Rangers’ Laviolette will be coaching in the All-Star Game for the fourth time in his career. He previously coached at the 2011 event as the Flyers’ head coach and then in 2015 and 2018 while coaching the Nashville Predators. Laviolette has led the Rangers to a 27-13-2 record this season, as New York is in first place in the Metropolitan Division.
Rick Bowness
Winnipeg Jets head coach Bowness will be making his first appearance as one of the NHL All-Star Game coaches. The Jets are second in the league with 60 points and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.
Jim Montgomery
Boston Bruins’ Montgomery will be making his second straight All-Star coaching appearance. Montgomery joined the Bruins in the summer of 2022 and won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s Coach of the Year in his first season with the team. Boston is 25-8-9 this season with 59 points.
Rick Tocchet
Also making his second appearance at the All-Star Game as a coach is Vancouver Canucks’ Tocchet. Vancouver currently has the best record in the NHL, leading the league with 29 wins. The Canucks have scored the most goals so far this season and have the best goal differential at plus-55.
The 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend begins Feb. 1 with the All-Star Player Draft. On Feb. 2, the new and improved All-Star Skills competition will occur. The festivities will come to a close with the All-Star Game on Feb. 3 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
