This is the time of year when top NFL free-agents begin to weigh their options for the next career move. The Super Bowl has come and gone and within the next few weeks, the new league year will begin. With the start of the new league year free agency will begin. Therefore top NFL free agents will then have the opportunity to negotiate the terms of new contracts. However, for some NFL free agents certain teams will allow for a better fit compared to other franchises.
Quarterback Derek Carr: New York Jets
The Jets are a solid landing spot for veteran quarterback Carr. Likewise, the Jets have said to want to go with a veteran quarterback this upcoming season. For Carr, the Jets have a good defense, decent offensive line pieces, good running backs, and some talented young wide receivers. However, the AFC East is a tough division and in order to compete good quarterback play is needed. For the Jets signing Carr in free agency is the better route than trading for Aaron Rodgers. Use the draft capital it would take to get Rodgers to upgrade the offensive line. A move like that would go a long way. Carr and the Jets already had a great visit and in other words, now it’s about making the money work.
The projected Contract is three-years, 111 Million and 72 Million guaranteed.
Running Back Miles Sanders: Miami Dolphins
The next player on the top NFL free-agents list is Sanders. Coming off a good regular season the Dolphins and Sanders would be a perfect pairing. For instance, the entire Dolphins’ backfield is about to hit free agency. The Dolphins have plenty of weapons in the passing game but not in the run game. The Dolphins rushing attack was ranked 25th in the NFL. This team averaged 99.2 yards a season ago. With a more balanced offensive attack, the Dolphins could become one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL. This team would be loaded with constant explosive plays. An every-down role with a playoff team is the most ideal fit for Sanders.
The projected Contract is three-years,23.5 Million and 13 Million guaranteed.
Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers: Chicago Bears
Meyers is a 26-year-old wide receiver that has barely scratched the surface of his potential. He is not the flashiest receiver on the NFL free-agents list. Meyers only had six touchdowns with 900 receiving yards last season. Although it wasn’t the most explosive season the Bears could use more offensive weapons. Quarterback Justin Fields needs a young player like Meyers where the two can potentially grow together. In addition, the Bears can offer Meyers what no other club can. Which is an opportunity to grow to his fullest potential without having other players at the wide receiver position block his growth. As well as a team willing to throw the ball more often than Meyers’s previous team.
The projected Contract is four-years, 66.5 Million and 38 Million guaranteed.
Defensive Line Javon Hargrave: Seattle Seahawks
Over the past two seasons, Hargrave has been one of the most prolific pass rushers in the NFL. In other words, he has tallied 18.5 sacks during those two seasons. Just this past season Hargrave recorded 11.5 sacks and helped solidify a top-five defense for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hargrave’s play helped propel them to a Super Bowl run. The Seahawks could use the help along their defensive line. Last season the Seahawks were ranked 30th against the run and Hargrave could help improve that part of the defense. Hargrave is an athletic 305-pound defensive lineman that would be a much-needed help for a seahawks team trying to capture sustained success. Above all Hargrave would be the staple piece for the Seahawks.
The projected Contract is three-years, 61.2 Million and 40.25 Million guaranteed.
Edge Yannick Ngakoue: Cleveland Browns
For the Browns to revamp the defensive line, this off-season is a necessity. With a newly hired defensive coordinator in Jim Schwartz, his calling card has been the play of defensive lineman. In the past, Schwartz’s defenses have been anchored by the defensive line. So adding depth on the interior will help along with adding a player like Ngakoue from the NFL free-agents list. Myles Garrett would benefit greatly from a running mate like Ngakoue. However, a season ago the Browns had trouble stopping the run. The first thing to remember Ngakoue isn’t a top-rated run-stopper but his pass-rushing abilities will go a long way. Pairing Ngakoue and adding depth along the line could be the key to improving the front end of the defense.
The projected Contract is three-years, 45.5 Million and 27.5 Million guaranteed.
Safety Jessie Bates: Atlanta Falcons
In five seasons in the NFL Bates has become one of the league’s better deep safeties. During Bates’s first three seasons, he surpassed 100 tackles and has 14 career interceptions. He would be the staple piece for a struggling Falcons team that can use him for seasons to come. The Falcons have plenty of cap space with 55.8 Million and can make Bates one of the highest-paid safeties on the NFL free-agents list. For that reason, Bates may be looking to cash in as he played on the franchise tag last season.In a league where throwing the ball has become the calling card for success a ball-hawking player like Bates can elevate this team. The Falcons were ranked 25th in pass defense which shows a glaring need on the back end of this defense. This role can be mutually beneficial.
