The biggest storyline this offseason is the QB market. More particularly centered around two players, Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson. One is a future hall of famer parting ways with a storied franchise after 18 years. Another is on a team that’s refusing to pay him despite being in his prime. Rodgers already said that he intends to play for the New York Jets despite ongoing negotiations with Green Bay. On the other hand, Jackson recently took to Twitter to demand a trade to voice his frustration with how the Ravens organization has treated him. Both of these guys may be wearing different uniforms next season. Will be pitching together some blockbuster QB trade packages for both QBs and the necessary compensation needed for a deal in place.
Jets:
- Aaron Rodgers
Packers:
- 2023 first rounder
- 2024 First rounder
- Corey Davis
The waiting game for Jets and Packers fans must be brutal. It’s been two weeks since Rodgers’ announcement and there has been no sign of movement. Part of the hold-up is the Packers’ asking price is a minimum of two first-rounders. The Jets are hesitant to give up two firsts for a 39-year-old on a one to a two-year rental. But the Packers have all the leverage so they have no choice.
Luckily, the Jets received an extra second-rounder by sending Elijah Moore to Cleveland. This gives them more flexibility knowing they still have two picks in the top 50. They probably have to give up a receiver since they signed Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman. Corey Davis makes the most sense since he has the highest cap number receiver group and gives the Packers a solid number two next to Christian Watson.
Colts:
- Lamar Jackson
Ravens
- 2023 first-round pick
- 2024 first-round pick
- 2025 second-round pick
The most realistic option is the Ravens giving Jackson all the guaranteed money he wants. But since that has not happened yet, a trade is still a possibility. One of the many trade packages for Jackson, the Colts sound the most interesting. Chris Ballard at the league meeting in Arizona stated “Anytime a special player is available, which he is, you’ve got to do the work”. Gardener Minshew was brought in be a bridge/backup on a one-year deal. Indianapolis currently holds the fourth overall pick in the draft and could easily match the two first-round picks required via the non-exclusive franchise tag. They also have 20 million in cap space meaning they could afford to pay Lamar a fully guaranteed contract.
