Ty France

While some MLB players have been at home catching up with their families and enjoying the time off. Mariners First Baseman Ty France has been hard at work. After a year full of both offensive and defensive struggles, he seems determined to come back better than he was.

While the Mariners ownership hasn’t given the fans anything to be really excited about, the work that France has been putting in this offseason may. After watching teammate J.P. Crawford improve offensively after spending the offseason at Driveline, France has decided to do the same.

There’s obviously no guarantee that attending Driveline will fix the offensive issues that France has had since the end of the 2022 season. Though, the fact that he’s committed to solving those issues is something to look forward to. France is a career .270 hitter with 61 total home runs, so the potential to be a great hitter is there.

After Ty France had arrived in Seattle in 2020, he had become a key contributor to the Mariners lineup. He had become an all-star in 2022 but after the break, he slumped before the Mariners reached the playoffs. The Mariners had a plan heading into the 2023 offseason to reduce the number of strikeouts in the lineup. They have since traded away Eugenio Suarez and Jarred Kelenic, as well as opted not to re-sign Teoscar Hernandez. Even though, the Mariners have been linked to free agents such as Jorge Soler, Rhys Hoskins and Cody Bellinger. There’s no certainty that they make a big addition either due to the budget constraints, so a small offensive improvement from France will be a welcome sight.

The best version of Ty France in the heart of the Mariners lineup may be what they need. They still have some MLB-ready talent in the minors as well.
