Emerging from Gonzaga as an elite three-point shooter, Corey Kispert was the perfect draft pick for the Washington Wizards in 2021. He dominated the nation throughout his senior season, elevating the Bulldogs to a remarkable 31-1 record.

As a rookie, Kispert demonstrated flashes as a solid piece off the bench. Given how Washington’s rebuild was going, the coaches were more focused on the development of their 15th overall pick rather than his contributions on the court. They foreshadowed his ability to evolve into a star talent in the NBA.

By the end of his sophomore year, Kispert’s value on the Wizards rose drastically. He found ways to contribute in whatever role he was assigned, proving to the front office he was ready to fight for the playoffs.

The Washington Wizards should extend Corey Kispert before he dips his feet in free agency.

Along with Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr, Corey Kispert has established himself into the future of Washington. He is one of the most reliable three-point shooters in the league with the potential to flourish into a formidable defender.

Last season, the former three-star prospect averaged an exceptional 13.4 points and 2.0 assists in 80 games for Washington. Better yet, he posted a three-point percentage of 38.3 on six attempts per night. If he improves statistically for a fourth straight season, the Wizards will have a finalist for the 2025 Most Improved Player award.

Moreover, Kispert is in the final season of his rookie contract. Although he will become a restricted free agent, the front office could sign their former first-round pick for much less money, rather than waiting till free agency begins. This strategy creates more cap room to add a superstar in the near future.

Currently, Kispert’s contract is considered to be one of the best around the league. He will be paid under six million next season to help head coach Brian Keefe make a push for the postseason. If he soars to 20 points per game, he will be in voting for an all-star in the Eastern Conference next season.
